Decorating your farm can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be. Some people pick a theme; others buy whatever tickles their fancy. As you level you will unlock more items—some things will be unavailable to you for a while, like the Manor or Villa. See our article on leveling for the specifics; it will tell you in detail how item unlocking works for the first 15 levels.
You also want your farm to be functional. Keep in mind that if you want to level, you need to be able to regularly plant and harvest your farm. If it’s too crowded or disorganized, you may find this quite difficult.
Oriental
One of the prettiest, most peaceful farms I’ve ever seen on Farmville was an Asian themed rice paddy and green tea plantation. It featured the Tea House and Pagoda which overlooked the Large Pond. The farmer had chosen ducks, swans, and turtles as their animals. The paddy and tea fields were laid out in a pattern that looked a bit like a zen garden’s swirls. I loved it and have been toying with the idea of starting a second farm just to make my own Oriental getaway.
Old-Time Farming
Got no use for them newfangled farms with all their pink cows and fancy villas? Go old school and decorate with all the trappings a homesteader would use on their 1800’s era farm. Some good selections would include the log cabin, workshop, weathered barn and natural wood fencing. Skip the exotic animals for this one, think horses, pigs, cows (no funny colors!) and chickens. Decide where in the world you’re farming—remember, lemon trees aren’t native to Idaho but a California farmer might be able to get away with it! Don’t forget nifty touches like the Covered Wagon, Outhouse, Water Pump, Woodpile, and Axe and Block.
Funky Farm
This isn’t just for the black sheep of the farming family; this is for the neon green sheep with a mohawk! Express your inner groove with pink and green animals, oddball harvests and incongruous extras. The Groovy Barn is an absolute must, though the Pink Barn is a close second. Use brightly colored fencing and hay bales to get your point across—you’re unique and not afraid to use it! Don’t worry about making everything match too closely, just let your fancy decide what belongs on a farm this cool!
Events
Each event will have its own set of limited time items for you to decorate your farm with. We’ve seen such notable events as the Carnival, Thanksgiving/Autumn theme, Christmas, and Alien Invasion. When you see something you like, stock up on it because it may never come again!
Some other ideas to help you brainstorm:
Girly Girl Farm (think lots and lots of pink)
Haunted Farm (Halloween items are a must)
English Manor House (manor + huge ornamental gardens. Geometric shapes, a hedge maze, and dDecorating your farm can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be.
