Farmville runs on two different kinds of currency: Farmville Coins and Farmville  Cash.  Farm Cash is a recent addition to the game and allows you access to more elite items.  For example, during the Alien Invasion, the Flying Saucer was only purchasable with Farm Cash.  Buildings such as the Tea House, Pagoda, and Groovy Barn all require that you save up your Farm Cash or purchase more on your account.  You can add both Coins and Cash to your account, but it will cost you real money through your credit card or Paypal account.  The current rates are:

Real Money
Farm Cash
Farm Coins
$40.00 240 70600
$20.00 115 33300
$10.00 55 15800
$5.00 25 7500
Farmville accepts Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.  I recommend spending money only on Farm Cash; with a relatively low time investment you can easily save up plenty of coins for other things.
Coins:
Coins are the basic run of the mill currency that you’ll deal with most of the time.  When you plow, plant or buy certain items, coins are what you’ll spend.  Your harvests are all in coins; when you receive milk from a cow, you get coins directly into your account balance at the top left of your screen.  The same goes for plant crops; when you harvest an apple tree, you don’t receive apples, you get coins.  Keeping an eye on your coin balance will help you choose what crops to plant.  Sometimes you may have to choose between planting a whole field of a cheap crop or planting just a few squares of an expensive one.  Keep a calculator close by and figure out which is giving you the most bang for your buck!
Farm Cash
Farm cash is generated on your account at the rate of 1 a day, so DON’T SPEND YOUR FARM CASH ON ANYTHING YOU CAN BUY WITH COINS!!!  Seriously, don’t give in to the impulse.  There are special buildings, special animals during events, fuel for your vehicles—tons of things that you can only buy with Farm cash.  Save it until you absolutely need it!!  Use it for special items during events that will help you build your collection of rare and/or unusual items.  Good purchases include unique animals such as the Baby Turkey during the Thanksgiving event (though there is a Wild Turkey also available during this event as a Lost Animal), time-limited decorations (only available during that event), and anything that you decide your farm can’t do without.  Remember, it’s your farm so make it reflect your unique personality.
When it comes to buying vehicles such as a tractor or seeder, make sure you’re prepared to handle the cost of fuel.  Vehicles need to be gassed up in order to run, otherwise they’re just decorations that take up space.  If you’re planning on having a large farm with several vehicles, you may want to consider buying some Farm Cash to help keep everything running smoothly.
