There are 2 categories of Farmville animals: Livestock (which you can purchase at the Market for coins or Farmcash) and Lost Animals (which will show up on your farm from time to time). The great thing about animal crops is that they do not rot like plant ones. Once an animal is ready to be harvested, it will patiently wait for you to log in again and harvest it. They’re a low-stress, easy to manage way of making money and enjoying some variety on your farm.
Livestock
The livestock you can currently purchase at the Market are pretty limited. Currently there are dairy cows, pigs, and white (regular) sheep. During special events and holidays, new animals will appear for a limited time. During the “Alien Invasion”, green cows titled BOV1NE-09 (now called Alien Cow) appeared in the Market for 2400 coins. They give a crop called “milktonium” which sells for 18 coins. American Thanksgiving brought the “Baby Turkey”–when harvested for the first time, it will transform into a grown, adult Turkey. The adult Turkey can then be harvested for feathers every 2 days at 80 coins a harvest.
You can receive more exotic livestock as free gifts from your friends, although the old standbys are available there as well.

Lost Animals
Farmville has a fun feature that requires you to keep an eye on Facebook status updates to see if your friends have found any “lost animals”. These lost animals will periodically show up on your farm and ask you for help. For example, to celebrate American Thanksgiving, the creators of Farmville released a new “lost animal”–the Wild Turkey. She will appear on your farm with the following caption:
(Your name) discovered this frightened bird in Farmville. This time of year is tough for her and her kind. Hopefully she can find comfort and safety on a friendly farm. . .
- Other lost animals include:
- Ugly Duckling (which can be transformed into a swan)
- Brown Cow (gives chocolate milk)
- Pink Cow (gives strawberry milk)
- Black Cat (gives yarn)
- Turtle (gives eggs)
- Black Sheep (gives wool)
With lost animals, you cannot adopt the animal yourself. You can only help them by putting them up for adoption. If you have more than one Facebook account, this is the perfect time to use it! Put your animal up for adoption, then log out. Log in on your other account and quickly adopt the animal before someone else does! As I’ve said before, keep an eye on your friends’ status updates for Farmville to adopt their lost animals.
If you’re gathering a lot of cows and/or chickens, considering buying a Dairy Barn or a Chicken Coop. Each building holds 20 cows or chickens and provides a convenient way to store them, as well as harvesting them all at once. Chicken Coops also give you the chance of Mystery Eggs. . .read FarmVille Buildings to learn more!
