The different types of Farmville buildings are designed with a variety of purposes in mind.  Some are functional, such as the Chicken Coop which will store up to 20 chickens for you.  While in this coop, chickens have a chance of producing Mystery Eggs, a highly desirable item that you cannot get any other way.  Other buildings, like the Tea House or Pagoda, are strictly decorative.  You need to keep in mind what you want from a building when you select it and place it on your property. Decorative Buildings
Decorative buildings give your farm character and help you express your personality through the game.  If your farm has an Asian theme, why not place a Pagoda or Tea House in the background?  For a haunted farm, try the Black Manor or Black Barn.  There are Tree Houses in several colors, and many homes scaling up to the most expensive building currently available: the million dollar villa that you can buy at level 34.  A selection of farm related structures is also included, such as a Greenhouse, Fruit stand and a Silo.  Currently, all these structures have no purpose other than to decorate your farm.

Functional Building: Storage and Animal BuildingsStorage Buildings
Toolsheds and Barns have recently been given the ability to store objects around the farm that you may no longer want to display but still don’t want to sell.  Each Toolshed can hold up to 2 objects; the Barns hold 8.  Use your space wisely; don’t waste it on small or easily replaced items!
The Garden Shed is a storage system for your perfect bunches of flowers.  Keep them fresh in here and bring them out only when you need to replenish your decorative borders.  They are also able to be gifted to your friends.  The Garden Shed holds up to 25 perfect bunches.
Animal Buildings
The first animal storage building to appear was the Dairy Barn, which holds up to 20 cows.  It allows the farmer to harvest all 20 cows at once, as well as containing them in much less space than simply placing the cows on your land.  You can also put your “special” cows inside this barn (e.g. Alien Cows, Pink Cows, Brown Cows) but the cow heads visible at the outside of the building will not change to reflect the different colors.
Chicken Coops are by far the niftiest of the new changes added to Farmville.  Like the Dairy Barn, the Chicken Coop allows you to store 20 chickens in a small space and harvest them all at once.  However, they also provide the unique opportunity of Mystery Eggs.  Each time you harvest, you have a chance for a message to pop up on your screen and inform you that you’ve found “Mystery Eggs”.  They will be in a variety of colors, depending on the color of the chickens you’ve placed inside your coop.  From white chickens, you get Premium White Mystery Eggs.  These will generally hatch into more white chickens, though you have a chance to get a Brown Chicken, a Black Chicken, a Golden Chicken, or a surprise item (like a Flamingo decoration).  You want to put the most unique chickens possible into your coop in order to get the best eggs.  Currently, you can buy these colorful chickens with Farm Cash.
